Imidi Mugeni
Work Experience:
Imidi began his banking career in 1998 and has extensive
work experience in the Banking Sector within the Commercial and
Corporate Credit divisions. His Credit experience covers sectors
such as ICT, Construction, Property Finance, Energy,
Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Trade finance, Insurance, steel,
airlines, engineering and Tourism sectors. He has handled Credit
transactions both in South Africa and the broader African
region. His work experience includes advising clients with
matters that include Companies in Distress, Work Out and
Restructuring.
Imidi joined Stanbic Africa (Standard Bank) in Johannesburg in
2004 as a credit evaluation manager. He was responsible for
evaluating and managing the counterparty credit risks associated
with Stanbic Africa lending and investing activities, with the
primary objective to contain credit risk within acceptable
parameters in 15 African countries (Botswana, Congo DRC, Ghana,
Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria,
Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe).
After Stanbic Africa, Imidi continued his career in 2008 in
corporate banking with Nedbank Ltd within the corporate and
international credit division.
Imidi’s extensive experience across a wide range of corporate
banking products has equipped him with a well-balanced
combination of risk management skills.
Qualifications: Imidi is a graduate from the University
of Johannesburg (formerly known as Wits Technikon). Imidi
obtained a Btech degree – Banking in 1999 at the University of
Johannesburg. In 2002, Imidi obtained a Higher Diploma in tax (H
Dip. Tax) from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
During the period 2004 to 2006, Imidi enrolled for a Masters of
Business Leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa (UNISA)
– School of Business Leadership. He completed research work for
a thesis entitled “Factors constraining the growth of small
business finance in South Africa“. Personal interviews were
conducted with financiers, industry experts, small business
development agencies and small business owners with a business
relationship with lenders, including IDC, Khula, ABSA, Standard
Bank, Nedbank, the Microfinance Regulatory Council and FinMark
Trust.
It was through this research that Imidi developed an interest
and passion for entrepreneurship, small business development and
new venture funding.
Imidi is fluent in French and is
our key transactor for projects originated in French speaking
countries.
